The Midwest saw some of the worst air quality conditions in the world Thursday, and similar conditions are expected to persist for several days.

"A lot of the prairies within Canada, the prairie provinces, entered the fire season already starting out in a drought, and so there wasn't a lot of moisture throughout the winter," said Alex Jones a communications manager at the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center.

A thin veil of hazy smoke from Canadian wildfires blanketed the Kansas City sky early Friday, making the air unhealthy from some. The smoke drifted into the metro overnight.
