Skygazers in the northern region of the US and Canada might catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights as soon as tonight and into tomorrow. The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center just issued a G3 (strong) geomagnetic storm watch for April 16,

Photography experts told National Geographic that a wide-angle lens, an aperture or F-stop of four or less and a focus set to the furthest possible setting are recommended to capture the northern lights. If using a smartphone, NOAA suggests turning on night mode and disabling flash.

The Northern Lights, otherwise known as Aurora Borealis, will be visible across multiple states in the U.S. on April 15 and 16, 2025. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has an "Aurora dashboard" that provides maps showing where the Northern Lights may be visible.
