Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday confirmed he's seriously considering two options to try to redraw California's congressional districts to get more Democrats elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

California Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday vowed to fight the "illegal" move by President Donald Trump's administration to cancel more than $4 billion in federal grants for the state's ambitious but much-delayed high-speed rail project.

The California Attorney General’s Office countered that the Trump administration “cannot bully our local law enforcement into breaking the law.”

The U.S. Justice Department asked California counties to provide lists of all non-U.S. citizen inmates in their jails, ratcheting up the Trump administration's challenge to sanctuary policies.

An A.C.L.U. lawyer said it was possible that any sheriff who complied with the request could be in violation of California’s so-called sanctuary state law.
