Gov. Kathy Hochul deployed the National Guard as she has weighed transferring prisoners out of state to address the Empire State’s mounting prison guard shortage.

More than 2,000 New York prison guards who were fired for participating in an illegal wildcat strike won't be able to get another job with the state, Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

More than 2,000 New York prison guards who were fired for illegally walking off the job were barred Tuesday from being hired for other state jobs by Gov. Kathy Hochul as officials took steps to recover from a three-week wildcat strike that severely strained the corrections system.

More than 2,000 NY correction officers who are being terminated after striking are being prohibited from working for a state agency in the future.

The state and the correctional officers’ union agreed that officers should return to work Monday and that some provisions of a solitary confinement law would be put on pause.
