Since the launch of the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 there have only been two other quad-core releases by Intel. The Core 2 Extreme QX6800 and Core 2 Quad Q6600, which were released at $1199 and $851 ...

According to this plan Intel will be reducing the Q6600 price later this year to $530 (in the coming 3-4 months), when it will probably give more life to it as a more affordable quad-core solution.

Since the Intel Developer Forum revelations, the Core 2 Extreme QX6700. which is the top-end part, has gained a name and the range has already expanded.
