Israel eliminates Iran’s war chief Ali Shadmani in Tehran airstrike, disrupting regime’s top command just days after predecessor’s death.
Israel appeared to be expanding its air campaign on Tehran five days after its surprise attack on Iran’s military and nuclear program, as President Trump posted an ominous message warning residents of the city to evacuate.
A fresh wave of Iranian missiles were launched at northern Israel, Israel Defense Forces said in a statement. Israel's emergency services said there are no reports of any casualties, aside from some isolated incidents of injuries as people raced to bomb shelters.
The Israeli military says it has killed Ali Shadmani - Iran's most senior military commander, and "the closest figure to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei".
But Israel's formidable and sophisticated military forces - with an arsenal largely, but not exclusively, provided by the United States - are enabling it to overpower a much larger enemy. The BBC looks at the military balance in the latest war in the Middle East.

The Israeli military said it killed Ali Shadmani, one of Iran's most senior military commanders, in an airstrike in Tehran. He had only been in the job for about four days after Israel killed his predecessor as commander of the central headquarters,
The general had been appointed after the death of the Islamic Revolution leader Lieutenant-General Gholamali Rashid.
In total, Tehran has sent 370 ballistic missiles toward Israel, with around 30 hitting targets in the country, the Israeli government says.
