Juneteenth, established by President Joe Biden in 2021, is the most recently added federal holiday. Sometimes referred to as “Black Independence Day" or "Freedom Day," Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 that news of the Emancipation Proclamation made it to enslaved people in the South — nearly three years after it was actually signed.

The fourth annual Longmont Juneteenth Community Celebration is set to happen from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Roosevelt Park. “The event marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates the heritage, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Black communities,” the Longmont Juneteenth website states.
There are a host of events in Brooklyn that will honor and celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of more than 250,000 slaves at the close of the Civil War.
