EAST LANSING ― Michigan State University won't be able to make the cuts needed for financial stability without layofffs, President Kevin Guskiewicz said in a June 30 email to faculty and staff.

Guskiewicz spent almost three decades at UNC-Chapel Hill before deciding to leave the university. His new position comes with a significant pay raise. As UNC's chancellor, Guskiewicz made $620,000.
