Former Talladega Mayor Larry Barton died “peacefully at his home” on Wednesday at the age of 85. Barton served four terms as the mayor of the city where he was from.

James "Larry" Barton passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. He was born in Strong, Ark., on March 31, 1935, to James Alvin and Athleen Goynes Barton. The family moved to Fordyce in 1937.

That story made its way into the national news and beyond. Barton denied that accusation but lost the election. Larry Barton was 85 years old.
