DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) – A sentencing date has been scheduled for Senator Nicole Mitchell of Woodbury, Minnesota. Seventh Judicial District Chief Judge Michael Fritz presides over the trial of democratic Sen. Nicole Mitchell on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Becker County District Court in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

She is accused of breaking into her late father’s home to retrieve mementos. The defense claims she was checking on her stepmother.

The prosecution and defense put the fate of Minnesota state Sen. Nicole Mitchell in the hands of a jury Friday, as both sides gave closing arguments on felony burglary charges that could hold political consequences as well as criminal.
