I never expected to write an article directly comparing the Steam Deck with the Switch 2. But Nintendo is poised to give its PC-powered competition a rude awakening.
I was going to skip Nintendo Switch 2 because of Steam Deck — but now I’m buying day one
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal only teases a single title, a brand new Mario Kart game, but that’s a series I’ve been playing almost my entire life, and it’s enough to sell me the Switch 2. Am I going to pay potentially $399 (the Switch 2's rumored price tag) if Mario Kart is the only launch game that appeals to me? Yup.
The Steam Deck OLED Has Completely Replaced My Nintendo Switch
In addition to ergonomic improvements, the biggest upgrade over the first-gen LCD Steam Deck is the OLED display, and you see that from minute-one. It maintains the same 1280x800 resolution, but with an improved max refresh rate of 90 hertz. And yes, I got plenty of games hitting that threshold and running at a buttery smooth 90 fps.
