Following the historic snowstorm here in South Georgia, and the wildfires out west in California, the American Red Cross says there is a critical need for blood donations.

Volunteers from the Northeastern New York chapter of the American Red Cross aided four people following a fire on Square Road in Hogansburg. Four adults were impacted by the fire. Additional details about the fire were not immediately available.

January's National Blood Donor Month will include a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross and Air Methods’ Mercy Air program.

Interested donors can make donation appointments at redcrossblood.org. The Red Cross can also be reached by phone at 1-800-RED-CROSS. Appointments can be made at mobile sites or fixed donation sites. In Harrisonburg, the fixed site is located behind Valley Mall at 182 Neff Ave.

The American Red Cross is helping seven people after an early Monday morning fire in Jefferson County. Volunteers from the Central and Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross provided immediate emergency assistance to seven people after a blaze on Strawberry Lane in Clayton.
