Nearly half of all northern border apprehensions were reported in New York. Washington, Vermont, Maine and Montana recorded the next most.

In total, the U.S. border with Canada spans 5.525 miles. While some of that is shared with Alaska, about 4,000 miles is patrolled by the Swanton Sector in Vermont and New York.

At a whopping 120 miles long, Lake Champlain spans a long stretch of the New York-Vermont border. While most of the lake is within the United States, its northern tip is in Quebec in Canada.
