Two decades later, another Vikings wide receiver has the Detroit Lions looking to change the game to stop him. This week, the Lions will bring a rule change proposal to the NFL Owners Meetings, pleading for the league to eliminate the award of an automatic first down as a penalty for defensive holding and illegal contact.

Troy Vincent, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, pushed for the Detroit Lions' proposal to change the NFL playoff seeding structure, whereas teams would be ranked by win-loss record regardless of whether they won the division.

The Lions proposed changing the seeding structure of the league's playoffs to favor a team's overall record over its place in the division. This would've favored the Minnesota Vikings, who finished 14-3 after losing the battle for the division lead against the Lions in the last game of last season.
