A Chicago Fire Department captain has died from injuries he suffered Wednesday morning from a garage fire on the West Side in the Austin neighborhood, fire officials said. Captain David Meyer died after the structure at 5505 W. Crystal St. collapsed, officials said.

CFD investigators said the garage fire that led to the death of Captain David Meyer was started by someone igniting the contents of a trash bin. Meyer is being remembered as a hard working, decades-long public servant.
