More than three years after a plan for a National Juneteenth Museum was hatched, developers have secured land in Fort Worth.

With Opal Lee, the “grandmother of Juneteenth” in attendance, the Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night to develop and lease land to the National Juneteenth Museum.

Nearly three years after Fort Worth officials first pledged support for the National Juneteenth Museum, council members officially confirmed plans to lease city property for the construction of the project.

The National Juneteenth Museum has unveiled new renderings as Fort Worth City Council voted to approve a land deal and financial support for the project.

Tuesday night the Fort Worth City Council approved the demolition of a community center to build the National Juneteenth Museum in its place, marking a major milestone in the museum's development.
