One YouTuber's experiment involved a gas generator to power his Tesla Model S during a 1,800-mile road trip through the Midwest without stopping to plug in. (He did have to stop for gas, ironically).
When you look at the direct cost of both, a generator is cheaper. A single Tesla Powerwall starts at $8,400 and a 10 kW costs about $2,000 – both before installation.
On Nov. 7, 2021, the Twitter account Thinking Patriot tweeted a photograph of a Tesla car that appeared to be in the process of charging using a gas generator. It also appeared on Facebook.
Tesla filed a patent that describes a machine to make it easier to swap out electric battery packs, cutting the time to service down to just 15 minutes.
