According to the 2025 Axios Harris Poll 100 Reputation Rankings, customers prefer Kroger over Publix. The national grocery store chain ranked in 35th place, with a score of 76.7.

In Kentucky, Publix will face competition from Kroger, which has 104 stores in 55 cities in the Bluegrass State.

While all of them rated Kroger superior in appearance, with an average score of 9/10 vs. 8/10 for Publix, the all-important taste score leaned heavily in Publix's favor.

Kroger was $8.58 cheaper than Publix for the 20 items included in the price comparison. That’s more than 20%! Of course, the price isn’t the only thing that’s important to shoppers.

That’s one happy customer in Florida, but Kroger’s new venture needs a lot more. “Kroger is entering a really, really competitive category,” said Sucharita Kodali, an analyst with Forrester.

Kroger does stock a good amount of the store's $6 rolls, but does not scrimp on the other sushi, either. If anything, there is a bit more sushi at Kroger on these days.
