Current Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is term-limited under state law and cannot run for the position again in 2026. Benson has launched a campaign to become Michigan's next governor.

Aghogho Edevbie, the current deputy secretary of state, announced his candidacy in January. The Democratic nomination will take place at the Michigan Democratic Party Convention in the spring of 2026.

The office, located at 3601 28th St. SE near E. Beltline Avenue, will close on Monday, Aug. 4 and reopen on Monday, Aug. 18.
