The Los Angeles Chargers had their sights set on Hampton, but were unsure he'd be there at their pick. They feel as if they struck gold by landing Hampton on Thursday night.

Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman of The Athletic graded every first-round pick from last night’s draft. They gave Los Angeles an A for their Hampton pick because of the upside he brings to the entire offense.

The 5-foot-11, 221-pound Hampton rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior in 2024 and averaged 5.9 yards per carry in each of his two seasons as the Tar Heels’ lead back.
