Robbie Ray struck out nine in seven innings and became the National League's first eight-game winner as the San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 3-2 on Thursday. Ray (8-1) allowed two runs and four hits with a walk.

Following a shocking flurry of roster moves, the Giants erased a five-run deficit against the San Diego Padres to beat their divisional rival, 6-5, snapping a streak of 16 consecutive games without scoring more than four runs.

On the day the Giants cut ties with LaMonte Wade, there was perhaps no more fitting tribute to him than grinding out a win.
