The spate of protests, which have seen both peaceful marches and violent clashes with law enforcement, prompted the president to call in the military.

Protests are planned for 1,800 communities nationwide on June 14, including more than 200 in California, the same day President Donald Trump holds a military parade in Washington, D.C.

At the same time, the Trump administration has directed immigration officers to pause arrests at farms, restaurants and hotels, after Trump expressed alarm about the impact aggressive enforcement is having on those industries, according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter who spoke only on condition of anonymity.

"I have directed my entire Administration to put every resource possible behind this effort," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

At the start of Saturday’s protest in San Francisco, people created a large sign on the lawn at Dolores Park that read “F—K ICE.”

The downtown Los Angeles curfew is still in effect more than a week after ICE protests began. Laurie Perez reports.
