A Minnesota state senator will resign from office from her seat after she was found guilty Friday of burglarizing her stepmother's home, her attorney said in a statement.

Sen. Nicole Mitchell, a Woodbury Democrat who was found guilty of first-degree burglary, will resign from the Minnesota Senate, her attorney said.

A sentencing date is now set for State Sen. Nicole Mitchell, who was convicted last week on two felony burglary charges for breaking into her estranged stepmother's Detroit Lakes home.
