At 3:58 a.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service released an updated flood warning in effect until Sunday at 8:48 p.m. for Leavenworth and Atchison counties.

The National Weather Service released a flash flood warning at 8:38 a.m. on Friday in effect until 11:30 a.m. for Greene County.

As of 12:30 p.m., heavy rain had already started to fall in some parts. A flash flood warning was in effect for DuPage and Cook County, the NWS said, with reports of "totally submerged viaducts and underpasses in the city of Chicago."

A flash flood warning was released by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 3 p.m. EDT in effect until 6 p.m. EDT for Alpena and Presque Isle counties.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — As of July of 2025, the United States has experienced the most flash flood warnings since the 1980’s. The National Weather Service (NWS) officially began tracking the data in 1980’s. In the Continental United States, which contains the lower 48 states, has experienced 3,466 warnings.

A Flash Flood Warning was issued Friday afternoon for parts of Cook and DuPage counties, including suburbs like Darien and Bridgeview. The National Weather Service urged residents to avoid flooded areas and seek higher ground. Storms also triggered a ground stop at both O'Hare and Midway, with more storms expected overnight into Saturday morning.

The Charleston area and its surroundings may receive more flash flood warnings soon, as the National Weather Service office lowers its threshold for issuing them; these warnings will be based more on potential impacts.
