The National Weather Service has confirmed several EF4-strength tornadoes in outbreaks of severe weather this month, the most since 1997.

PITTSBURG COUNTY, Okla. — After Monday night’s tornadoes, hundreds of people are still without power and water in Pittsburg County. Two tornadoes traveled near the Pittsburg County line, and thousands of people are feeling the impact in rural towns across the county.

Much of the state is expected to experience a moderate risk of tornadoes with a current severe thunderstorm warning in effect.

Severe storms damaged homes, businesses, and power lines across Oklahoma, with the worst impacts in Pittsburg and Muskogee counties.

WICHITA — On May 4, 2007, Greensburg, Kansas, was slammed by a 205 mph EF5 tornado that killed 12 and damaged or destroyed much of the town. On Sunday night, it almost happened again as a family of massive, violent tornadoes tore through south-central Kansas.

The violent tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma, on May 20, 2013, killing 24 people and injuring dozens more.
