Tourists in western Turkey and the Greek islands were shaken awake on Monday night as a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the popular holiday destination of Rhodes.

The 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit at 2.17am local time. Heavy shaking was felt in Rhodes, just 29km to the south, as well as on other islands around the Aegean Sea.

At least four migrants died after falling into the sea from their rubber dinghy on Monday off the western coast of Turkey, officials said.
