U.S. President Donald Trump, dogged by questions about his ties to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, arrived in Scotland on Friday for some golf and bilateral talks that could yield a trade deal with the European Union.
President Trump arrived in Scotland on Friday for his four-day private trip, which will include opening a brand-new golf course and a meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He also confirmed he will be meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday.
The Scots are generally not fans of Mr. Trump, and protests are already planned. A group called “Stop Trump Scotland” said it is organizing a “festival of resistance” against Mr. Trump during the trip and has called on John Swinney, the first minister of Scotland, to decline to meet with him.
Trump is due to visit two of his golf courses in Turnberry and Aberdeen as well as a new course that’s set to open in August. Follow along for live updates.
