The Supreme Court Building houses the Supreme Court of the United States, the highest court in the federal judiciary of the United States. The building serves as the official workplace of the chief justice of the United States and the eight associate justices of the Supreme Court .

The Supreme Court Building, located at One First Street, NE, in Washington, DC, is the permanent home of the Court. Completed in 1935, the Building is open to the public Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is closed on weekends and federal holidays.

The architect of the Supreme Court, Cass Gilbert of New York City, drew upon the classical Roman temple form as the basis for the Court's new building. Reached by a great flight of broad steps, the portico of tall Corinthian columns gives the building a monumental entrance.

The Supreme Court of the United States is located on First Street NE between East Capitol Street and Maryland Avenue, across from the U.S. Capitol and next to the Library of Congress. Visitors may enter the building from the doors located to the left (Northwest Door) and right (Southwest Door) of the main steps on the plaza level.

May 15, 2015 · After Washington, D.C. became the federal capital in 1800, the Court convened in many different Capitol building rooms, and even occasionally in nearby homes and taverns, before moving to its current home in Northeast Washington, D.C. Architect Cass Gilbert designed the current building, and it was completed in 1935.
